Working Groups within the IES
The Irish Ergonomics
Society from
time to time may establish Working Groups to study relevant areas
of interest. The work of such groups are bound by a defined
project management process.

Standards
Working Group
The Irish Ergonomics
Society was approached by the National Standards Authority of
Ireland (NSAI) in 2004 to co-ordinate review and contribution to
CEN/TC 122 Ergonomics Standards. To date, contribution to
ergonomics standards from Ireland has been limited. The IES
regards its responsibility in standards development as one of its
important functions as the recognised professional society for
ergonomics in Ireland. Hence, the IES embraces this opportunity
and will endeavour to provide expertise in standards review and
consultation as permitted by the availability and willingness to
participate by suitable professionals.

Schools
working group
This
working group was set up as a result of expressed concern from
ergonomists, psychologists and health care professionals about the
lack of ergonomic principles incorporated into the everyday lives
of children at school. Many issues were identified e.g. school
furniture, schoolbag carriage. Of particular concern was the
growing increase in children’s use of computers with little
consideration given to the ergonomic factors associated with
computer installation and use.
